Dancing to the Tune: Portable Oxygen

One of the most difficult parts of adjusting to an external oxygen supply is the sense of limitation this brings. Limitation not just on mobility but also the limitations it can induce to your outlook of life.

The basic benefit of having a portable oxygen tank, cylinder or concentrator, is that it is portable. You can move around, you are are mobile. You don’t have to depend on someone else as much.

There is another more subtle benefit and that is the recovery of freedom. This reopens your possibilities, your capacity for action and to be proactive.

During the last few years there have been new developments in portable oxygen design. There are other options to the large and heavy tanks. They are now made of aluminum and therefore lighter. You can find compact concentrators which are easier to handle.

This means you can drive on your own without fear of lack of oxygen. You can walk, you can go shopping, socialize and proceed with many ordinary activities.

Last weekend we went to a restaurant for a long lunch. The background music was a very enticing flamenco dance.

My step father received a tremendous round of applause after dancing, (very well I may add – slowly but with a fantastic rhythm). One hand holding an imaginary waist and the other his portable oxygen.

The right attitude and the right time, and plenty of oxygen.
