Lifestyle And Oxygen Therapy

You are finding yourself short of breath and then your physician diagnoses you. You are advised that you must have oxygen therapy.

One of your main worries relates directly to your lifestyle. You don’t really know how this will affect you, whether you will be housebound and in general what your new limitations are.

Your physician must take into account your lifestyle and rehab potential. Everyone has different goals and lifestyle requirements.

One thing you can do is be as open as you can with your doctor and make sure you make him aware of your needs, your hobbies, activities, social commitments and so on.

A few suggestions would be:

  • The type of activities you have.
  • Do you go out a lot?
  • Or do you stay at home?
  • Your type of work – is it at home?
  • Your hobbies
  • Your commitments

Providing this information will allow your physician to know you better and help him define the proper and appropriate oxygen modality (or oxygen system combination) for you.
